Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has issued a decree declaring a nationwide state of emergency, citing threats to national security and stability.

President Nicolás Maduro announced the emergency declaration, granting his government expanded powers to maintain order and respond to what he described as “extraordinary circumstances” affecting the country. The decree enables security forces to impose restrictions on movement, communications, and public gatherings as officials seek to tighten control amid escalating tensions.

While the government has not specified the duration of the emergency, state media reported that the move aims to defend Venezuela’s sovereignty and “preserve peace” in the face of internal and external challenges. Opposition figures, however, have condemned the announcement, accusing Maduro of using the measure to suppress dissent and consolidate power.

The declaration comes amid widespread uncertainty following recent reports of U.S. military strikes on Venezuelan targets, a move that has further deepened political unrest and international concern over the region’s stability.
