Manchester United Sack Rúben Amorim, Appoint Darren Fletcher as Interim Manager
Manchester United have confirmed the departure of Rúben Amorim as head coach, announcing that club technical director Darren Fletcher will take charge on an interim basis.
In an official statement released today, the club said: “Rúben Amorim has departed his role as Head Coach of Manchester United. With Manchester United sitting sixth in the Premier League, the club’s leadership has reluctantly made the decision that it is the right time to make a change. This will give the team the best opportunity of the highest possible Premier League finish.”
The statement continued: “The club would like to thank Rúben for his contribution to the club and wishes him well for the future.”
Amorim’s departure follows a mixed run of results that left United struggling to secure a top-four spot. The Portuguese manager, who joined earlier in the season, faced increasing pressure from fans and the board after inconsistent performances in both domestic and European competitions.
Darren Fletcher, who has been serving as the club’s technical director since 2021, will take the reins until the end of the season as United begin the search for a permanent successor.
Fletcher’s first test will come this weekend as Manchester United host Aston Villa at Old Trafford, with the team hoping for a fresh start under his leadership.
