Super Eagles striker Akor Adams has revealed that his mother was rushed to the hospital just hours before Nigeria’s thumping 4–0 win over Mozambique at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Despite the emotional blow, Adams powered Nigeria to victory, playing 86 minutes and firing home the fourth goal in the 75th minute, his first-ever AFCON goal and his third strike for the national team.

The goal was more than just another number on the scoresheet. It was personal.

Speaking after the match, an emotional Adams disclosed that his mother had been admitted to the hospital on the morning of the game, preventing her from being at the stadium.

“The goal is dedicated to my mum. She is supposed to be here, but she is in a hospital. She was admitted this morning, but she is much better now,” Adams said.

Relief followed the fear, as the forward confirmed his mother’s condition had improved.

He also hailed the team’s overall performance after the commanding win.

“I am happy for the team. Victor had a fantastic game, and Lookman had a fantastic game. We came out with a victory, and we are happy.”
