Suspected bandits on Tuesday night stormed the National Park Service (NPS) office at Oloka in Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State, killing at least five personnel and carting away their weapons.
The attack reportedly occurred at about 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, when heavily armed assailants invaded the facility and opened fire on officers on duty. Preliminary reports indicate that no fewer than five NPS personnel were killed in the onslaught, while several others may have sustained varying degrees of injuries. Local sources say the attackers seized service weapons from the fallen officers before retreating into the surrounding forest, making immediate recovery of the victims’ bodies difficult as of the time of filing this report.
Security agencies in Oyo State have confirmed the incident and disclosed that the Commissioner of Police and other service chiefs have deployed tactical teams, Mobile Police units and other operatives to the area to forestall further attacks and begin search and recovery operations. The attack has heightened fear among residents of Orire LGA and neighbouring communities, amid growing concerns over the spread of banditry into previously peaceful parts of the South-West.
