Fresh crisis has hit Nigeria’s Super Eagles camp as players threatened to boycott their next Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) clash against Algeria over unpaid winning bonuses.
Multiple sources confirmed that the players have vowed not to train or travel to Marrakech for the crucial encounter unless all outstanding entitlements are settled by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
According to a highly reliable source within the team, players and officials are still being owed bonuses from four matches already played at the tournament against Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda and Mozambique.
Despite their commitment to the competition and national pride, the players reportedly drew a red line, insisting that preparations for the Algeria match will not continue until the payments are made.
This development is similar to a standoff in November, when the Super Eagles threatened to boycott their 2026 World Cup qualifier against Gabon over unpaid entitlements.
At the time, the players and officials issued a joint statement, declaring, “The full squad, including officials, withheld from training today in Morocco because of unresolved issues with outstanding payments.
The Super Eagles are awaiting a quick resolution to continue preparations for Thursday’s game with Gabon.”
The latest ultimatum has again thrown the spotlight on the NFF, as financial disputes threaten to derail Nigeria’s AFCON campaign.
