Former Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose, has issued a political warning shot at the African Democratic Congress (ADC), declaring that the party risks total irrelevance if it fails to field Peter Obi as its presidential flagbearer in the 2027 election.

Speaking on Arise TV, Fayose painted Obi as the heartbeat and major attraction of the ADC, insisting that the party’s rising profile is tied almost entirely to the former Anambra State governor’s presence.

According to Fayose, Obi’s political weight cuts across party lines, noting that wherever he goes, electoral fortunes follow.

“Peter Obi is the life in ADC. I didn’t say there are no other human beings in ADC, but others are largely spent forces,” Fayose said.

He recalled how Obi transformed the Labour Party from a fringe platform into a national force during the 2023 elections, stressing that the surge was driven by Obi’s popularity, not party ideology.

“Before Obi went to Labour, the party was barely known. But because of him, people won elections into the House of Representatives,” he said.

Fayose went further to argue that even if Obi were to contest on the platform of a smaller party, he would still command massive nationwide attention and support.

While refusing to predict whether Obi would win in 2027, Fayose maintained that excluding him from ADC’s presidential ticket would spell political disaster for the party.

“I’m not saying Obi will win or will not win the election. But I can tell you this: if ADC fails to field Obi, their situation will be worse than before they even came together,” he added.
