Director of News at Television Continental (TVC), Babajide Otitoju, has issued a stark warning to Governor Siminalayi Fubara amid the deepening political crisis in Rivers State, saying any governor who loses the backing of lawmakers is living on borrowed time.
Otitoju made the assertion on Sunday during an interview on TVC while analysing the impeachment moves by members of the Rivers State House of Assembly against Governor Fubara and his deputy.
According to him, the unfolding drama at the Assembly suggests a power struggle rather than a genuine constitutional process, especially as the alleged offences against the deputy governor remain unclear.
“Rivers House of Assembly wants to impeach Fubara’s deputy, even when they can’t really point out the offense she has committed.
“That’s why people think this is just a game meant to get the governor and deputy out of the way so that the speaker can become acting governor.
“The fact is clear. If you don’t have the support of the lawmakers, your days could actually be numbered. This was actually what happened to Balarabe Musa, who was governor of Kaduna State.”
