There could be a looming crisis within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as former Northern Elders Forum spokesperson, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, predicts a wave of internal wrangling and defections once the party concludes its convention ahead of the 2027 presidential race.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday, Baba-Ahmed warned that the ADC is sitting on a ticking political time bomb, with competing ambitions threatening to tear the party apart.

According to him, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is almost certain to secure the party’s presidential ticket, a development he says will leave many interests bruised and sidelined.

He argued that once the ticket is decided, unity within the party could collapse, as disgruntled members move to the exit.

“ADC will bleed after its convention because almost certainly Vice President Atiku Abubakar will get the ticket. When he does, some people will walk out,” Baba-Ahmed said.
