Barcelona are closing in on an agreement to sign 16-year-old Norwich City prospect Ajay Tavares, with the England youth international understood to be keen on a move to La Masia despite late interest from Germany.
Reports in Spain and England indicate that Barcelona have moved ahead of their rivals and are now in advanced talks to bring Tavares from Norwich to Catalunya.
The operation is described as “very advanced”, with club officials optimistic that all formalities can be completed soon, allowing the youngster to join up with Barça’s youth structure before the end of the window.
Competition from German clubs
Bundesliga sides, including Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, had registered serious interest in Tavares after tracking his progress in Norwich’s academy and England’s youth teams.
However, Barcelona’s project, pathway to the first team and swift negotiations with Norwich have reportedly put them firmly in the lead, effectively fending off German and Premier League competition.
