A former senatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue South, Comrade Daniel Onjeh, has said that no campaign of calumny, political smear, or coordinated attack will stop Governor Hyacinth Alia from winning re-election in 2027.

Onjeh stated this in a press release issued in Makurdi on Tuesday.

According to him, the repeated attacks against the Alia administration are desperate attempts by vested interests who feel threatened by a government that has refused to serve elite political agendas.

No campaign of calumny, smear, or sponsored attack will deter Governor Alia from securing re-election in 2027,” Onjeh said.

He added that the governor has already earned the trust, confidence, and goodwill of the people through his performance.

He explained that the attacks are deliberate efforts to distract the administration from its focus on delivering real results, while also trying to confuse the public with misinformation and noise.

Onjeh argued that Governor Alia’s government has recorded visible, people-focused achievements that surpass those of previous administrations since Nigeria returned to democracy in 1999.

Governor Alia’s administration has recorded visible, people-oriented achievements that clearly surpass the performance of previous administrations since Nigeria returned to democratic governance in 1999. The present government has shown uncommon discipline, clarity of purpose, and commitment to addressing the real needs of ordinary citizens rather than pandering to elite political expectations.

Benue is undergoing a quiet but deliberate transformation,” Onjeh said.

He noted that the governor is not given to noise-making or political theatrics.

According to him, what defines the Alia administration is results, not propaganda.

He stressed that development is taking place through infrastructure projects and policy-driven interventions, even if they are not aggressively advertised.

Onjeh, a former President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) and former Chairman of the Governing Board of the Project Development Institute (PRODA), Enugu, said those who dismiss the governor’s achievements now will be shocked by the end of his first term when the full scale of his record becomes clear.

He cautioned against mistaking the governor’s calm and measured leadership style for inactivity.

“Alia’s governance is guided by strong moral and clerical values that are already easing the suffering of the people.”

“The current administration is gradually relieving the hardship endured by the people after many years of deprivation, which had plunged communities across the state into persistent poverty and misery.”

He noted that pulling Benue State out of such a difficult past is not an easy task and requires patience, sacrifice, and firm leadership.

He further stated that resistance to the current government was expected, as individuals who benefited from waste, privilege, and unchecked corruption under previous administrations would naturally fight back once governance begins to serve the majority.

According to him, the media attacks and political noise are reactions from people who have lost access to power and privilege.

Onjeh recalled that past administrations in Benue performed poorly, completed entire tenures without commissioning meaningful projects, and left behind unpaid salaries, pensions, and gratuities, yet did not face the level of hostility now directed at Governor Alia.

He described this contrast as revealing, stressing that if the allegations being pushed against the APC-led government were genuine, the people would already be protesting on the streets.

“Instead, the masses understand who is working in their interest and have chosen to stand with a leader who prioritises their welfare over political patronage,” he said.

Onjeh maintained that the intensity of the attacks against Governor Alia only confirms that those who lost control of the state are the loudest in opposition.

He urged the governor’s critics to make peace with reality, insisting that the people of Benue State are firmly behind Alia and understand the importance of continuity for sustained growth and development.

Using a biblical metaphor, Onjeh said the people of Benue cannot afford to return to a painful past.

“Returning to Egypt is not an option,” he said, adding that even if the people arrive at the Red Sea, they would rather trust in a way forward than go back to bondage.”

Onjeh added that Governor Alia will win re-election overwhelmingly in 2027.

He concluded by stressing that performance, sincerity of purpose, and popular support will always defeat propaganda and campaigns of calumny.
