Tragedy struck in Delta State as a suspected internet fraudster allegedly killed his childhood friend during a fierce dispute over a $1,000 transaction.
Operatives of the Delta State Police Command arrested the 28-year-old suspect, identified as Mr. Oghenegare, over the killing which occurred on January 21, 2026, at Agbarho community in Ughelli North Local Government Area.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Bright Edafe, said both the suspect and the deceased, Mr. Courage, were involved in internet fraud when an argument erupted between them.
The confrontation reportedly turned violent, with the suspect allegedly striking the victim on the head during the fight.
The suspect is currently in custody at the Delta State Police Command headquarters in Asaba.
Lamenting the incident, Edafe decried the rising wave of murder cases in the state, blaming hot temper, drug abuse, and disputes that could have been amicably resolved.
In a video statement, the suspect admitted the deceased was his childhood friend and claimed the dispute started after the victim had “logged” him out of the transaction process.
Police say investigations into the killing are ongoing.
