The Niger State Police Command has confirmed the death of a 53-year-old lecturer, Abdulfatai Aiyede, who reportedly collapsed and died while visiting a young woman at her residence in Minna.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun, the incident was reported on January 27, 2026, at about 10 a.m.
The deceased, who was said to be from Bida, had travelled to Minna to visit a 25-year-old nursing student identified as Stella Joseph.
Police sources disclosed that during the visit, the young woman allegedly served the lecturer a meal.
Shortly after eating, Aiyede reportedly began to convulse and suddenly collapsed inside the house.
He was immediately rushed to the General Hospital in Minna for urgent medical attention, but was later confirmed dead by medical personnel.
Abiodun confirmed that Stella Joseph has been arrested in connection with the incident, while investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the sudden death.
He added that the body of the deceased has been taken for medical examination to ascertain the exact cause of death, as police continue their inquiry into the tragic incident.
