The Zamfara State Police Command has arrested 21 illegal miners in Zurmi and Maradun Local Government Areas of the state.

In a statement issued to newsmen on Sunday, the spokesperson for the command, DSP Yazid Abubakar, said the illegal miners were arrested Saturday in a joint operation comprising officers of the Anti-Illegal Mining Unit, Tactical Unit, and Bomb Disposal Unit of the command.

Abubakar said other participants in the joint operation included personnel of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps and the Federal Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development, Gusau Area Office.

He said, “On January 31, 2026, at about 1400 hours, a joint operation comprising officers of the Anti-Illegal Mining Unit, Tactical Unit, and Bomb Disposal Unit of the Zamfara State Police Command, in collaboration with personnel of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Federal Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development, Area Office Gusau, was conducted to dislodge groups of illegal miners.
