The New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, has rejected claims that the party’s national leader, Rabiu Kwankwaso, went too far in alleged talks about leaving the party to join the All Progressives Congress.
In response to the reports, the NNPP National Publicity Secretary, Ladipo Johnson, denied that the former Kano State governor was involved in any talks with the APC. Ladipo, in a recent interview he shared with DAILY POST, said that Kwankwaso never reached the point where he thought about switching parties to join the APC.
“It’s really sad that these lies aren’t just being made up by some people who try to sound important, but they’re also being printed as the main stories in big newspapers,” Johnson said.
We want to clearly and officially say that Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso never had any meeting with President Bola Tinubu or any of his representatives, whether inside the APC or outside, where the topic of switching parties was talked about.
“Just days ago, a newspaper published a main story about the ‘details’ of why Senator Kwankwaso’s ‘defection’ didn’t work, based heavily on his supposed demands before joining the APC.
It was all nonsense, because nothing like that ever happened. It might be thought that the story was created to damage Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso’s reputation. But they have failed in this terrible campaign of false accusations.
“This is the truth, and nothing but the truth. To that extent, we are asking Nigerians to ignore these media reports, whether they come as news stories or articles and columns that spread false information.
It’s all a bad attempt to damage Kwankwaso’s name, but these troublemakers have done a terrible job. After the Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, switched his support to the APC, there were stories that the APC had a disagreement with Kwankwaso because of his ‘high demands.’
Recall that Baba Yusuf, a politician, told Arise TV on Friday that Kwankwaso made a wrong decision about how much influence he had during his talks with the APC.
