The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), has come down hard on Neolife and the Faith Heroic Group (FHG), banning their activities on campus over what it described as rising fear, tension, and pressure among students.

In a memo signed by the Registrar, Charles Adeleye, the university said the presence and operations of the groups had created “serious discomfort, fear, unnecessary tension and unwarranted pressure,” threatening the school’s peaceful academic environment.

Neolife, which parades itself as a wellness company, has been dogged by accusations of exploiting young people, dragging students into debt, and luring them with false promises of quick wealth.

Critics say the group pushes recruits into abandoning formal education for a sales structure that often leaves them financially stranded.

A Punch investigation last year exposed how students and other young Nigerians were allegedly trapped through fake job offers and mouth-watering salary promises, only to discover they had been enrolled into a multi-level marketing scheme that failed to deliver.

The report revealed that recruiters often advertised legitimate jobs with impressive pay, but later redirected unsuspecting victims into the marketing structure.

Explaining the clampdown, FUTA said it reviewed the recruitment patterns and general activities of both groups and found them harmful to students and the institution.

“Arising from the above, all activities of the FHG and Neolife are hereby proscribed with immediate effect,” the statement said.

“All students of the university are also directed to refrain from all the activities of the group on the university campuses. Failure to comply with this directive will attract serious penalties in line with the extant regulations of the university.”

The university’s decisive action sends a clear warning as it moves to protect students from activities it considers disruptive and exploitative.
