A UK-trained medical doctor and Abia political affairs commentator, Dr Dominic Emerengwa, has lashed out at critics questioning the educational interventions of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu in Abia North Senatorial District.

Dr Emerengwa stated this in a Facebook post reacting to online attacks against Senator Kalu’s latest education-focused gesture in the constituency.

A file photo of students reportedly sitting on bare floors to learn at a public school in Umunneochi before Senator Kalu’s intervention.

“Look at what you had before

“Look at what you just got

“So, Minus amusu, why are you upset?”

Using the pointed questions, Emerengwa challenged what he described as the flawed reasoning of those condemning the senator’s intervention, especially in communities where pupils had reportedly been sitting on bare floors to learn.

MUK TV reports that, in continuation of his education empowerment drive, Senator Kalu on Friday distributed over 400 desks and other learning materials to schools in Umunneochi Local Government Area of Abia State.

The initiative, which is designed for public schools lacking basic furniture, was meant to improve the learning environment for pupils and students at the grassroots.

However, the intervention unexpectedly attracted criticism online, following a video circulated by Iroegbu Emenike, publisher of All Facts Newspaper and a known sympathiser of the opposition Labour Party.

The video generated a wave of vitriolic comments questioning the value and intent of the donation, a development that prompted Dr Emerengwa’s quick response.

Emerengwa queried why an intervention intended to address a visible problem in public schools would attract condemnation rather than support, insisting that progress should be acknowledged regardless of political differences.

In a separate video shared on Senator Kalu’s official Facebook page, students and teachers of the beneficiary schools were seen jubilating as the desks were delivered, openly expressing gratitude and relief at the improvement of their learning conditions.

Despite the backlash from opposition quarters, Senator Kalu has maintained focus on grassroots development, reiterating his commitment to delivering tangible dividends of democracy to communities across Abia North.

The former governor’s constituency projects, stretching across education, infrastructure and social welfare, have continued to draw attention, and controversy, as political activities ahead of 2027 elections gather momentum in the state.
