Anti-graft operatives have descended on Katsina State, tracking 39 constituency and executive projects valued at a staggering N13.5 billion in a sweeping accountability drive.
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission kicked off Phase 8 of its Constituency and Executive Projects Tracking Exercise across the state’s three senatorial districts and federal constituencies, demonstrating a no-nonsense commitment to ensure public funds are not wasted.
Leading the operation is the Director of Operations, Ludam Samuel, as a joint team from the commission’s headquarters and its Katsina office combs through project sites.
The team is working hand-in-hand with representatives of the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors and members of the media to ensure strict compliance with specifications and value for money.
Speaking during the inspection tour on Friday, Samuel revealed that the findings so far are a mix of commendations and red flags.
“So far, we are satisfied in some projects, while in others the contractors will be mandated to return to the site to remedy the gaps identified.
“The team has inspected several health facility projects within the Katsina metropolis, as well as road projects in Funtua and Kankia. Water supply schemes were also tracked in Kurfi, Dutsin-Ma, Mashi and Dutsi Local Government Areas of the state,” he stated.
“In the education sector, school projects were monitored in Kafur, Sandamu, Daura and Mai’Adua Local Government Areas.
“The team also assessed the installation of solar-powered streetlights and reviewed various empowerment programmes implemented across the state,” he added.
From hospitals to highways, classrooms to clean water schemes, and even solar-powered streetlights, the anti-corruption agency is leaving no stone unturned.
The nationwide Phase 8 exercise, which began on Monday, is part of the commission’s broader mission to strengthen transparency and ensure that constituency projects funded with taxpayers’ money truly serve the people.
