Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU) has entered a new chapter with the appointment of Professor Ursula Ngozi Akanwa as its 7th Vice-Chancellor, and the first woman ever to hold the prestigious position in the institution’s history.
The landmark decision was announced by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Comrade Fidelis Chukwunweike Edeh, shortly after the Council’s 95th meeting, where members considered and approved the report of the Selection Panel.
Professor Akanwa, who currently serves as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Development), will officially assume office on March 1, 2026. She succeeds the 6th Vice-Chancellor, Professor Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe.
A distinguished scholar in Educational Measurement and Evaluation, Prof. Akanwa began her academic journey at MOUAU in 2010 when she joined as an Associate Professor from Abia State University, Uturu. Her steady rise in academia saw her attain the rank of full Professor in 2014.
