Preparations are underway at the EC30-C Polling Unit located beside Ekwa Church on Nssuka Street, Local Government Code 06, as officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) set up for the FCT Area Council Elections.
As of the time of filing this report, INEC staff were seen arranging polling tables and designating areas for voter registration and accreditation. However, the setup process has not been without challenges.
Some officials expressed concerns over inadequate logistics, particularly the lack of chairs and tables. They also cited insufficient community support in facilitating the arrangement of the polling area.
A total of 127 voters are registered at the EC30-C unit. Accreditation and voting had not commenced at the time of observation, as preparations were still ongoing.
Security presence at the polling unit is visibly strong. Personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Nigeria Police Force were deployed to the area, with officers patrolling the vicinity to ensure order and safety.
Party agents from various political parties were also present at the unit, monitoring the process ahead of the start of voting.
In line with electoral procedures, ad hoc staff posted voting guidelines and other relevant information on nearby walls for public viewing.
Residents and election officials were observed moving around the area as final arrangements continued in anticipation of the commencement of voting.
The situation remains calm, with security operatives maintaining vigilance as the electoral exercise prepares to get underway.
