Umar Abdullahi Abubakar of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been declared winner of the Abaji Area Council chairmanship election, handing the ruling party its fourth victory out of six councils.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced the result on Sunday, with Presiding Officer Muhammad Usman confirming that Abubakar polled a commanding 15,535 votes.
His closest challenger from the Young Progressives Party (YPP) trailed with 5,357 votes.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate followed with 4,547 votes, while the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) secured just 53 votes and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) managed 37 votes.
“Umar Abdullahi Abubakar of APC, having satisfied the requirement by the law, is hereby declared the winner and returned elected,” Usman declared.
The announcement came less than 24 hours after voting wrapped up on Saturday, February 21, 2026, across the six FCT area councils: Abaji, AMAC, Bwari, Gwagwalada, Kuje, and Kwali.
With Abaji now in the bag, the APC has firmly planted its flag in four councils, Abaji, Kwali, AMAC, and Bwari, leaving the PDP with Gwagwalada as its only win so far.
