Alexander Sørloth scored a hat-trick as Atlético Madrid defeated Club Brugge 4-1 in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League knockout play-off on Tuesday, progressing 7-4 on aggregate.

Atlético created the first clear opportunity when Giuliano Simeone connected with a cross, but no foul was awarded after a VAR check involving goalkeeper Simon Mignolet.

The hosts took the lead midway through the first half after Sørloth turned Brandon Mechele and his shot went past Mignolet.

Brugge responded before the break. Mechele flicked on a corner into the path of Joel Ordóñez, who scored to level the tie on aggregate again.
