Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has extended an olive branch to newly elected and ranking members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Rivers State House of Assembly, declaring his readiness to work with them for the good of the state.

This follows the February 21 bye-elections that saw Ukalikpe Napoleon win the Ahoada East State Constituency II seat and Loolo Bulabari Henrietta secure victory in Khana State Constituency II.

Describing their victories as well-deserved, Fubara said the results reflected the trust and confidence the people have in their chosen representatives.

“It is the beauty of democracy. When the people believe in your capacity, they will give you their votes,” he said.

“I look forward to working with them and their colleagues in the Rivers State House of Assembly for the progress of our state.”

The governor praised voters in Ahoada East and Khana for their peaceful conduct, saying the elections demonstrated democratic maturity.

The development comes just days after the Rivers Assembly suspended impeachment proceedings against Fubara on February 19, cooling tensions in a long-running political feud with his predecessor and FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.

In the past, the crisis had spiralled into a six-month emergency rule in the state.
