A routine “show of force” exercise in Abuja snowballed into a nightmare after a female officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) was excruciatingly crushed by an operational vehicle during a display.
The disturbing incident reportedly happened during a drill by the Corps’ Female Strike Force, popularly known as the Female Squad, in the Federal Capital Territory.
A 58-second video now circulating rapidly online captured the terrifying moment a black van with red wheels, boldly branded “Female Squad,” moved in formation with another vehicle marked “Female Strike Force FCT Command.”
As the lead van made a turn, it ran over one of the female officers, pinning her underneath the vehicle in full view of colleagues and onlookers.
Other NSCDC personnel and bystanders were seen rushing toward the van, frantically lifting it in a desperate attempt to rescue the trapped officer before she was moved into an ambulance.
While the Corps has yet to release an official statement, reports indicate that NSCDC spokesperson, Afolabi Babawale, confirmed the officer’s death during a telephone conversation on Saturday.
The identity of the deceased has not been made public as of the time of filing this report, with the Corps expected to issue a detailed statement clarifying the circumstances surrounding the tragic accident.
The devastating incident has left many stunned, raising urgent questions about safety measures during paramilitary exercises.
