Panic gripped Ndufu-Alike community in Ebonyi State on Sunday after gunmen swooped on Mr Francis Igwe, father of former Deputy Governor, Dr Kelechi Igwe, and whisked him away in a brazen daylight abduction.
The monarch, who is a former member of the old Enugu State House of Assembly and father of the immediate past Deputy Governor of Ebonyi State, Chief Barr. Kelechi Igwe, PhD, was reportedly kidnapped while on his way to church in Ikwo.
Community sources revealed that Igwe was driving when armed men riding on a motorcycle intercepted his vehicle.
The gunmen reportedly double-crossed him, forced him out of his car and sped off with him to an unknown destination.
The Chairman of Ikwo Local Government Area, Sunday Nwankwo, confirmed the shocking incident, assuring residents that the council is working closely with security agencies to gather vital information that could lead to his rescue.
Attempts to get a response from the Ebonyi State Police Command were unsuccessful as the Police Public Relations Officer, Joshua Ukandu, could not be reached at the time of filing this report.
