Abia 2027 governorship hopeful, Sir Mascot Uzor Kalu, has declared that the core responsibility of any serious government is to grow the economy and improve the lives of its people.
Addressing newsmen, Kalu said leadership must shift from empty promises to concrete action that creates jobs, builds infrastructure, and empowers citizens to thrive.
“The business of the government is economic development, the prosperity and well-being of the people,” he declared.
According to him, any administration that fails to focus on growing the economy has missed the essence of governance.
He stressed that small and medium-scale enterprises must be supported, investments encouraged, and policies crafted to stimulate productivity across communities.
Kalu argued that when governments put people first, unemployment drops, businesses expand, and social stability improves.
He listed education, healthcare, and commerce as non-negotiable pillars for sustainable development, warning that without strategic investment in these sectors, meaningful progress would remain elusive.
With households and entrepreneurs battling economic pressures, the former Abia Chief of Staff said the time for people-centred governance is now.
