Yoruba nation activist Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has set tongues wagging after he appeared wearing an All Progressives Congress (APC) cap at a high-profile social event in Ibadan on Tuesday.

The agitator, who attended the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rasheed Ladoja’s first Ramadan lecture since his coronation, was captured on video greeting the monarch and the Chief Imam of Offa, Sheikh Muyideen Salmon, all while proudly sporting the ruling party’s logo.

The sighting has sparked outrage and heated debate, with many questioning whether Igboho is signaling a political pivot amid his Yoruba nation activism.

This comes after Igboho’s spokesman, Olayomi Koiki, revealed that the activist has been cleared by the Presidency for his return to Nigeria following interventions by prominent traditional rulers, including the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Ladoja; the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi; and the Olugbon of Orile Igbon, Oba Francis Alao.

Igboho fled Nigeria on July 1, 2021, after his Ibadan home was raided by the DSS and Nigerian Army over alleged stockpiling of arms during his campaign to remove armed Fulani herdsmen from the South-West.

Three of his aides were killed, 13 arrested, and Igboho himself was detained in Cotonou for over a year before being released in March 2022.

Koiki stated, “Igboho may return to the country at any moment and will be fully reintegrated after his clearance has been granted.”
