Sony Group Corp. has halted plans to release its major single-player PlayStation 5 games on PC, ending a six-year push into multi-platform publishing and returning its biggest titles to full console exclusivity, according to people familiar with the company’s strategy.

The shift means recent and upcoming flagship single-player games such as last year’s samurai adventure Ghost of Yotei and Housemarque’s action title Saros will remain locked to PS5, with previously discussed PC ports now scrapped, those people said. Online and live-service projects, however, will continue to launch across multiple systems, with Bungie’s extraction shooter Marathon still slated for release on PS5, PC and Xbox.

Internally, Sony executives have grown concerned that delayed PC ports are delivering weaker-than-expected sales while also diluting the appeal of PlayStation hardware, reinforcing the decision to pull back from Windows releases for single-player exclusives.

Analysts note that Sony’s reversal comes after several high-profile ports underperformed on Steam, despite the platform’s vast user base and the success of competitors pursuing broader multi-platform strategies.

The move also sharpens the contrast with Microsoft, which is increasingly embracing day-one cross-platform launches and sending former Xbox-exclusive franchises to rival consoles, as both companies test different answers to the question of whether tight exclusivity or wider reach offers greater long-term value in a shifting games market.
