A private jet conveying Senator David Jimkuta, who represents Taraba South in the National Assembly, was forced to make an emergency return to Abuja after developing a technical fault shortly after take-off.

The scare occurred on Saturday while the senator was travelling to Kashimbila Airport for official engagements in Taraba State.

According to a statement from his office, Jimkuta was on his way to Takum and Wukari, where he was scheduled to attend the 2026 Zion Conference in Takum and also pay a condolence visit to the Catholic Diocese of Wukari following a fire incident at St Mary’s Cathedral.

Mid-Air Alarm Triggers Emergency Return

The statement disclosed that the aircraft eventually departed Abuja after an earlier delay caused by unfavourable weather conditions.

However, barely six minutes into the flight, an alarm sounded inside the aircraft, prompting the pilot to notify passengers of a technical issue.

The pilot immediately aborted the journey and turned the aircraft back to Abuja in line with aviation safety procedures.

“Acting with professionalism and in line with aviation safety protocols, the pilot immediately turned the aircraft back to Abuja, where it landed safely,” the statement reads.

Top Church Leader, Politicians On Board

Among those on board the aircraft were Magaji Jirape, President of the Christian Reformed Church of Nigeria (CRCN), Istifanus Gbana, former Speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly, and Adi Shekarau Masa-Ibi, APC Youth Leader.

Despite the tense moment, all passengers and crew members were reported safe after the aircraft landed.

“All passengers and crew members returned safely to Abuja, and we thank God for His mercy and preservation,” the statement reads.

Senator Thanks God For Safety

Following the incident, the senator expressed gratitude to God for protecting everyone on board.

“Senator Jimkuta expresses profound gratitude to Almighty God for sparing their lives,” the statement added.

The senator’s office also stated that details regarding the rescheduled visit to Takum and Wukari would be announced at a later date.
