The Federal Government has commenced the evacuation of willing Nigerians from Iran, escorting them safely across the Armenia border as tensions continue to rise in the Middle East.

The development was confirmed on Tuesday by the Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa.

According to her, officials of the Nigerian Embassy in Tehran are coordinating the movement of Nigerians who wish to leave the country, ensuring they are safely escorted to Armenia.

“The willing Nigerians in Iran are being safely escorted across the Armenia border by officials from the Nigerian Embassy in Tehran, ensuring smooth and secure passage for those wishing to leave,” Dabiri-Erewa wrote.

She further reassured that no Nigerian citizen in Iran has been affected by the ongoing tensions, noting that embassy officials are already stationed at the Armenia border to receive and assist evacuees.

The evacuation is being carried out in collaboration with Armenian authorities as part of emergency measures by the Federal Government to safeguard Nigerians abroad.
