Troops of Operation White Shield have apprehended a suspected gunrunner and recovered ammunition and cash in Obi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
Security sources said the arrest occurred at about 9:20 a.m. on March 14, when Section 2 of OPWS deployed in Awe and Lafia, in collaboration with a tactical team from the Office of the National Security Adviser, intercepted the suspect at Agwatashi.
According to the sources, the suspect was alleged to be supplying firearms to criminal elements operating along the Kwara–Kogi axis.
During the operation, troops recovered 200 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a mobile phone, and the sum of N50,000 from the suspect.
Security sources said the suspect and the recovered items were in military custody for further investigation, while follow-up operations are ongoing to identify and apprehend other collaborators in the arms supply network.
