The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is reeling after former FCT senator Philip Aduda resigned, blaming the worsening crises of the party for his exit.

Aduda, who once represented the Federal Capital Territory in the Senate, made his departure official in a letter dated March 17, 2026, to the PDP chairman of Karu Ward, Abuja.

His resignation takes immediate effect.

In the letter titled, ‘Notice of resignation of my membership from the Peoples Democratic Party’, he wrote, “I write to formally notify you of my resignation as a member of the People’s Democratic Party with immediate effect due to the crisis in the party.

“I remain grateful for the opportunity the party gave me to serve in various elective positions in our nation.

“Please, accept the assurances of my high esteem.”

Aduda’s resignation is the latest in a string of defections shaking the PDP and reshaping the Senate’s power map.

Just recently, three PDP senators, Amos Yohanna (Adamawa North), Aminu Iyal Abbas (Adamawa Central), and Ikra Aliyu Bilbis (Zamfara North), jumped ship to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), boosting the party’s numbers to 84 senators and cutting PDP’s Senate presence from 17 to 14.

Meanwhile, five PDP senators have defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), now the main opposition bloc in the Senate with nine members.
