Barely 24 hours after beginning a second-term, Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo has ordered all political appointees to immediately hand over their duties.
The directive, which is the first major decision of his new administration, mandates appointees across ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) to transfer responsibilities to permanent secretaries or the most senior civil servants in their offices.
The order was issued through a notice dated March 18, 2026, signed by Nwabufo Nwankwo, Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Secretary to the State Government.
According to the notice, the handover must be completed on or before the close of work on Wednesday, pending the formation of a new cabinet.
The letter read, “I am directed to inform all political appointees to hand over to the permanent secretaries or the most senior civil servant in the various MDAs on or before the close of work today, March 18, 2026, until a new cabinet is constituted.
“All first-term cabinet members are to meet with Mr Governor as follows: Date: Monday, March 23, 2026.Time: 10 am prompt. Venue: ANSEC Chambers
“Please accept the assurances of my esteemed regards.”
The sweeping directive effectively dissolves the existing cabinet structure, paving the way for a new team as Soludo begins his second term with a reset of his administration.
