Governor Abdullahi Sule has downplayed the profile of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), insisting that the ruling All Progressives Congress has nothing to fear ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during an appearance on Politics Today, Sule argued that a party with control of the majority of states cannot be threatened by an opposition platform with no state-level control.

“At one point, they said the PDP is the strongest opposition to our party, so now it is the ADC. You’ll continue to hear this goalpost keep moving. There’s no problem whatsoever with our party. A party controlling 31 states cannot actually be scared of a party that doesn’t control one state,” he said.

The governor described the growing narrative around ADC as a familiar political cycle, noting that opposition strength often shifts in public discourse without significantly altering the ruling party’s dominance.

On the issue of insecurity—one of the key criticisms raised by opposition groups against the current administration—Sule acknowledged the gravity of the situation but expressed confidence in ongoing reforms, particularly the push for state policing.

He disclosed that the idea has received overwhelming support among state governors, following deliberations at the National Economic Council (NEC).

“When we sat down at the NEC level to discuss, I think 35 out of 37 signed up for state policing. We agreed to go on with it. I think it is the parameter because it has to go into amending the law, it has to go to the National Assembly, it has to go to all the assemblies at various states. I think it is just the process that is taking time, but as far as we are concerned, I think every state believes strongly in state policing and Nasarawa is one of them,” he said.

Despite Sule’s confidence, the African Democratic Congress has continued to gain traction, attracting notable defections and positioning itself as a key opposition force in the build-up to 2027.
