The Bauchi State Police Command has identified shortages of manpower, arms, and ammunition as major constraints affecting its operational effectiveness in tackling criminal activities across the state.

The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, disclosed this on Thursday while hosting the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 12, Vungmoh Kwaimo, during an official visit to the command headquarters.

Aliyu explained that despite the challenges, the command had recorded significant successes in maintaining Bauchi’s reputation as one of the most peaceful states in the country.

He, however, noted that the shortage of personnel was limiting the command’s deployment capacity and its ability to respond swiftly to emerging security threats.

“At this point, it is pertinent to intimate the Assistant Inspector-General of Police on a few pressing concerns affecting the command’s operational capabilities. The shortage of manpower is affecting deployment and our ability to respond swiftly, particularly in the light of increasing security threats across the state,” he said.

The commissioner added that there was also a need for additional deployment of personnel for quick intervention duties at the Zone 12 headquarters, as well as reinforcement of the command’s workforce.

He further stressed that the command required more arms and ammunition to effectively support ongoing operations aimed at combating crime.
