Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, is set to resign his appointment from the cabinet of Bola Ahmed Tinubu as he positions himself for the 2027 Bauchi governorship race.

Sources close to the Minister revealed that he will formally submit his resignation letter on Monday, marking the first major step toward his political ambition under the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“Mr Tuggar will submit his resignation letter to the president today. He will be contesting in the governorship election in Bauchi in 2027,” the source told The Gazette.

The comes after a directive requiring political appointees with electoral ambitions to vacate their offices ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Earlier in March, President Tinubu ordered all such appointees to resign on or before March 31, 2026.

The directive, issued through the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, is in line with Section 88(1) of the Electoral Act, 2026, and the timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for party primaries.

Affected officials include ministers, advisers, assistants, and heads of federal agencies seeking to contest elective positions.
