The apex Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has set off a storm with a controversial assertion that the reduction in herdsmen-related violence across the South-East following the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari is “nothing short of a miracle.”

Reviewing the region’s security situation, the organisation said there has been a clear and noticeable decline in attacks compared to the tense years under Buhari’s administration.

According to the group, the South-East, which grappled with intense insecurity, particularly from incidents attributed to herdsmen, that left many communities in fear and forced displacement.

Despite not presenting official data, Ohanaeze maintained that residents have widely observed improved safety and a calmer environment across the region.

The explosive observation has since triggered mixed reactions nationwide, as security in the South-East continues to generate sharp and conflicting opinions among stakeholders.
