Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has sensationally resigned from the cabinet of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, focusing his attention now for the Oyo State governorship battle.
In a resignation letter dated March 26, 2026, Adelabu expressed appreciation to the president for the opportunity to serve, but made it clear his focus has now shifted entirely to the 2027 race.
The former minister said it was an honour to contribute to efforts toward improving Nigeria’s power sector, but stressed that pursuing his political ambition demands total commitment.
His exit marks a major shake-up within the Federal Executive Council, as political maneuvering ahead of the 2027 elections gathers serious momentum.
His resignation is in line with directives requiring political appointees eyeing elective offices to step down before party primaries, in line with the Electoral Act, 2026.
