The 2027 political battle is heating up as Godfrey Gaiya, top aide to House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, has dumped the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), setting his sights on the Kaduna South senatorial seat.

In a declaration on Thursday, the former Chairman of the House Committee on Sports confirmed his defection, describing it as a calculated move endorsed by consultations with his political base.

“My decision to join the ADC was carefully considered. It reflects consultations with my supporters and constituents who desire a credible alternative that prioritises people’s welfare, peace, and development,” Gaiya said.

Gaiya made it clear his move is not about personal grievances but about charting a new political course, insisting the ADC offers a fresh platform to challenge what he described as failed governance patterns.

Positioning himself for a bigger role, he said his senatorial ambition would allow him to directly confront the socio-economic struggles facing Kaduna South.

Despite his exit, he acknowledged the APC for past opportunities, but insisted Nigeria’s democracy must evolve through stronger institutions and inclusive leadership.

Behind the scenes, attempts to get reactions from the APC and the Speaker’s camp hit a brick wall, as both remained silent at press time.

Political analysts say this high-profile defection signals early power moves ahead of 2027, with politicians scrambling to realign and secure influence.

In Kaduna State, the stakes are rising fast, as shifting alliances and strategic defections like Gaiya’s threaten to shake APC’s long-standing dominance.
