Rui Costa has reiterated his confidence in José Mourinho’s future at Benfica, insisting there is no immediate uncertainty over the coach’s position.
Speaking to reporters about ongoing speculation linking Mourinho with other roles, the Benfica president stressed that the Portuguese manager still has one year left on his contract and that the issue of renewal or departure is not on the table for now. “José Mourinho has a contract for one more year, it’s not an issue at this moment. We are in sync,” Costa said, underlining alignment between the club hierarchy and the coach on the team’s current project.
His comments come amid reports that Mourinho, whose deal runs through the 2026–27 season with a mutual break clause, is attracting interest ahead of a potential reshuffle in the European coaching market this summer. However, Costa’s latest remarks signal Benfica’s intention to keep the former Chelsea and Real Madrid boss in charge next season and project an image of stability around the team.
