A flippant premeditated political plan has been uncovered in the Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress as governorship aspirant, Mascot Uzor Kalu, has accused party leaders of plotting what he described as a “kangaroo endorsement” ahead of the 2027 elections.
In a hard-hitting press statement issued in the early hours of April 12, 2026, and made available to MUK TV, Kalu alleged that a stakeholders’ meeting convened in Umuahia was being used to secretly position a preferred aspirant under the guise of mobilising support for the reelection campaign of Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He claimed that the APC State State Executives, LGA Chairmen, and selected stakeholders were directed to mobilise 20 persons per ward for the gathering, which he insists is part of a wider imposition plan.
“Credible information available to me indicates that this gathering is nothing more than a premeditated plan to foist an aspirant on the party through an endorsement charade,” he stated.
Kalu warned that any attempt to impose a candidate through a restricted consensus arrangement would be strongly resisted by other aspirants within the party.
“Any premeditated consensus arrangement orchestrated by the APC State Working Committee (SWC) and stakeholders, without the participation of all aspirants contesting for the same position, is illegitimate, unacceptable, and null and void ab initio,” he declared.
He further accused party leaders of undermining internal democracy and turning the APC into a platform for personal ambition.
“The APC in Abia must not be reduced to a tool for personal ambition or manipulated to serve narrow interests.”
The aspirant also cautioned the State Working Committee against taking sides or engaging in what he called “backdoor arrangements.”
“The era of coercion, backdoor arrangements, and political puppetry is over. As elected custodians of the party structure, members of the SWC must remain neutral and refrain from dancing to the tune of any aspirant,” he warned.
Reaffirming his political ambition, the former Abia Chief of Staff insisted he would not be pressured out of the race.
“I stand firm with all Abians; no amount of intimidation will make me step down. Every Abian has the constitutional right to run for any political office they deem fit.”
He also dismissed claims of a pre-decided candidate within the party.
“We shall not be cajoled into believing that one individual, who is not prepared to run for office, is now the anointed candidate.”
Kalu further warned party officials against participating in factional meetings, insisting that the integrity of the party must be protected.
“The APC SWC is hereby warned to desist from attending any pro-group meetings… The integrity of our party is non-negotiable,” he concluded.
