A governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue State, Mathias Byuan, has aroused political reactions with a promise to establish a “stomach infrastructure” ministry, while also pledging two million votes for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections.
Byuan, a former executive director of Housing, Finance and Accounts at the Federal Housing Authority, unveiled his ambitious agenda at the weekend in Makurdi during the launch of local chapters of the Ahmed Bola Tinubu (ABT) Support Group, under which he is promoting the “Bucket Revolution” for Tinubu 2027.
Laying out his vision, the aspirant said his administration would prioritise security, boost welfare through a food-focused “stomach infrastructure” ministry, and transform Benue from a civil service-dependent state into a thriving commercial hub.
He also promised inclusive governance that would cater to all segments of society.
Throwing his weight behind Tinubu’s re-election bid, Byuan cited ongoing infrastructure projects and appointments benefiting Benue as reasons the state must deliver massive support.
Among projects he highlighted were the Buruku Bridge, the Wurukum overhead bridge in Makurdi, and the dualisation of the Makurdi–Enugu Expressway.
“I am a beneficiary of President Tinubu’s goodwill to Benue people, but I chose to resign my position to answer the call of my people who are in dire need of purposeful leadership,” Byuan said.
The aspirant also took a swipe at the current state of affairs, alleging that despite substantial allocations, Benue has little to show in terms of completed projects, while insecurity continues to plague communities.
He said his governorship ambition is driven by a mission to “rescue” the state and reposition it for sustainable growth and development.
Party leaders present at the event threw their support behind him. The APC state chairman aligned with Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, Dr. Austin Agada, represented by deputy chairman Benedict Aluga, commended Byuan’s efforts in uniting party members and mobilising grassroots support.
In separate goodwill messages, Ambassador Philip Eche expressed solidarity from Benue Zone C, while the Director-General of the ABT Support Group, Dr. Kaaulu Akerkpev, declared that the state stands to regain lost ground under Byuan’s leadership.
