Tensions ran high in the hallowed chambers of the Senate today as senators engaged in a heated exchange over explosive claims made by Senator Abdul Ningi.
The Bauchi Central Senator alleged that the 2024 budget had been padded by a staggering N3 trillion, igniting a firestorm of controversy within the legislative body.
Amidst the uproar, Ningi found himself at the center of a maelstrom of conflicting statements.
Despite initially denying the reports, citing misinterpretation due to language barriers, the controversy only intensified as the Senate convened for its regular session.
Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriation, Senator Adeola Olamilekan, wasted no time in calling for a thorough investigation into Ningi’s claims, a motion quickly seconded by Senator Joel Onawakpo.
What followed was a tumultuous debate, with senators passionately arguing their positions on the matter.
As emotions reached a fever pitch, Senator Adamu Aliero intervened, demanding fair treatment for Ningi and urging Senate President Godswill Akpabio to ensure a balanced hearing.
However, Senate President Godswill Akpabio offered a terse response, declaring, “This is a very straightforward matter. We have a responsibility to maintain stability within the National Assembly.”
