Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, has confessed to overlooking the repair of bad roads in a constituency represented by an opposition politician.
As reported by Peoples Gazette, the governor made this confession during the inauguration of a 12km road stretch in the Okpoko area on Monday, where he revealed that he had declined to address the poor state of Nwokedi Street because the area’s representative was once aligned with the opposition party.
“I turned down the recommendation to develop Nwokedi Street because the House member representing the area was formerly in the opposition. When he raised concerns about the poor state of the road and suggested repairs, he was in the opposition, and I did not heed his advice,” Soludo explained.
Acknowledging that he was aware of the road’s poor condition, Soludo confessed to disregarding calls for repairs due to the political affiliation of the constituency’s lawmaker. He highlighted that he initiated the road repairs only after the politician joined his party.
“While taking a stroll one day, someone pointed out a road that the honorable member representing Ogbaru constituency 1, Noble Chukwunoso Igwe, had mentioned to me. However, because he was associated with the opposition at the time, I couldn’t take action on the road,” Soludo stated.
“Today, Noble Igwe is a member of our party, and he holds a significant position. We have listened to him. When he was in the opposition, his voice wasn’t as influential. But now, as a prominent member of our party, his opinions carry weight,” he added.
Soludo’s remarks came on the heels of his two-year anniversary in office.
Reflecting on his tenure, he disclosed that he had not borrowed funds to administer the state, forewent receiving salaries from the state, and his wife did not possess an official vehicle.
