Nigeria’s first tier commercial bank, Zenith Bank, Plc has ushered in a new era with the appointment of Dr. Adaora Umeoji as its trailblazing Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer.
The groundbreaking announcement, revealed on Tuesday in a statement penned by company secretary Michael Otu, marks a historic moment for the bank and the banking sector at large.
Effective June 1, 2024, Dr. Adaora Umeoji will assume the helm, succeeding the esteemed Dr. Ebenezer Onyeagwu, whose tenure concludes on May 31, 2024.
“Dame (Dr) Adaora Umeoji is the first female GMDCEO since the inception of the bank, and her appointment is consistent with the bank’s executive transition tradition, succession plan, and strategy of grooming leaders from within,” the statement emphasized.
Prior to this groundbreaking role, Dr. Umeoji served as the Deputy Managing Director of Zenith Bank, bringing nearly three decades of banking expertise to her new position, with a remarkable 26-year tenure within the institution.
Her academic prowess is equally impressive, boasting credentials from prestigious institutions such as Harvard Business School, Columbia Business School, the University of Jos, Baze University, University of Salford, University of Calabar, and Apollos University, among others.
Dr. Umeoji’s global perspective and strategic acumen are further underscored by her participation in management programs at renowned universities worldwide, including the MIT Sloan School of Management and Wharton Business School.
