Tragedy struck during the sacred Ramadan prayers in Katsina as bandits launched a brazen attack, claiming two lives and snatching a woman and her daughter, sending shockwaves through the community.
Musa Faskari, Chairman of Faskari Local Government Area, confirmed the harrowing incident, recounting how worshippers were ruthlessly targeted during Tarawih prayers in Mairua community.
Faskari revealed that the assailants stormed the home of Alhaji Lado Mairua, unleashing terror and violence. Despite resistance, they callously gunned down Alhaji Lado and a neighbor who bravely attempted to intervene.
Tragically, the attack escalated into the abduction of Alhaji Lado Mairua’s wife and their 15-year-old daughter, marking a second abduction ordeal for the family.
Expressing grave concern over the escalating violence, Faskari painted a grim picture of the community’s plight, citing frequent attacks and the bandits’ brazenness.
“The assailants stormed the home of Alhaji Lado Mairua during the prayers and demanded that he should follow them but he refused. So, they shot him dead,” Vanguard quoted him as saying.
With a sense of urgency, Faskari implored the Federal Government to intervene decisively, emphasizing the need for a concerted effort to eradicate the bandits’ menace.
He stressed the imperative for security forces to launch a proactive offensive against the bandits, lest the cycle of violence perpetuates unabated.
