The police in Delta State have confirmed the surrender of traditional ruler Clement Ikolo Oghenerukevwe, wanted by the military over the killing of 17 soldiers in the state.

Clement Ikolo, the monarch of Ewu Kingdom, an Urhobo community in Ughelli South Local Government Area, surrendered himself on Thursday to the state police.

Sources reveal that the monarch has been flown to Abuja following his surrender.

The Defence Headquarters had declared the monarch wanted alongside other individuals over the killing of the 17 soldiers.

Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the report, stating it as “confirmed.”

While details remain scarce, it is learned that the monarch was handed over on Friday morning in Asaba.

Earlier, the monarch had held a press briefing, asserting his innocence before submitting himself to the police.

In his statement, he absolved him from the heinous crime committed in the Okuama community, saying, “I have no hand in the killings, I have no hand in encouraging anybody to kill anybody; it is against my philosophy as a human being and my faith as a Catholic.”
