A 10-year-old boy, identified as Israel, has been accused of strangling his friend, Ezekiel, during a football match in the Powerline area of Ejigbo, Lagos State.
According to reports, the incident occurred on Friday while the boys were engaged in a friendly football game within the community.
A police source revealed to Punch Online that a heated argument broke out between Israel and 10-year-old Ezekiel during the match.
In a fit of rage, Israel allegedly grabbed Ezekiel by the neck and strangled him until he lost consciousness and ceased breathing.
“A report was received at Ejigbo Division on Friday from a complainant that stated that his son, Israel aged 10 was playing football with some boys at Oluwole Street, Powerline Ejigbo, where his mother’s shop is situated when he had an argument with one of the boys named Ezekiel aged 10, who held him on the neck and strangled him until he died,” the Police source said.
Tragically, Ezekiel was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead by the attending physician.
Upon receiving the report, detectives from the Ejigbo Division visited the scene, documented the situation, and transported Ezekiel’s body to the General Hospital in Isolo for further examination.
Confirming the incident, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, stated that the body has been moved to the mortuary for post-mortem examination.
Meanwhile, Israel, the suspected perpetrator, is currently in police custody as investigations continue into this disturbing incident.
