Bayo Onanuga, a media aide to President Bola Tinubu, has leveled serious accusations against Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general election, alleging that Obi and his supporters are actively working against the success of President Tinubu’s administration.
Onanuga, in an interview with Mic On, highlighted Obi’s alleged engagement in what he termed “dangerous politics,” suggesting that Obi and his “Obidient” movement take pleasure in the country’s economic challenges, including the depreciation of the naira.
Onanuga further claimed that Obi’s supporters are desperate to witness the downfall of President Tinubu’s government, emphasizing the divisive nature of Obi’s campaign tactics.
He stated, “What I know about the campaign of Obi was that for the first time in a very long while in our country, we had a candidate who was inflaming ethnic passions…bringing two dangerous things to our politics – ethnicity and religion.”
Onanuga highlighted the reluctance of Obi to acknowledge the government’s achievements, alleging that Obi is quick to criticize but fails to commend when the government performs well.
“Even Peter Obi himself, read his tweets, when the government has done something good, he will never comment about it. But when it is bad news, quickly, he will tweet,” Onanuga remarked, suggesting a deliberate effort to tarnish Tinubu’s administration.
Despite these allegations, Onanuga stressed that it is premature to judge the success or failure of Tinubu’s government at this stage.
