Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has enforced a strict directive, banning the extension of classes in all schools and requiring dismissal by 2:30 pm, aligning with UN guidelines.
The move, swiftly implemented in response to concerns raised by the Catholic Bishop of Awka, aims to prioritize children’s well-being and family interaction.
Commissioner for Education, Prof Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, acknowledged Soludo’s commitment to ensuring children have ample rest and family time, urging school heads to adhere to the new schedule.
The decision comes amidst Bishop Ezeokafor’s expressed concerns about prolonged school hours, citing its adverse effects on both pupils and parents, with teachers often extending lessons from 7 am to 6 pm.
