A Channels Television journalist, Mr. Joshua Rogers, was abducted from his residence in Rumuosi, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, on Thursday night.
Rogers, who is assigned to the Rivers State Government House, was followed home from work and kidnapped as he was getting out of his car at around 9 pm.
A source, choosing to remain anonymous, recounted the events, stating, “Yes, he was kidnapped last night at his residence in Rumuosi and taken away in his car by some unknown gunmen.”
Earlier that day, Rogers had attended and reported on an event in Ndoni, where Governor Siminalayi Fubara inaugurated a Primary Healthcare Centre donated by the PAMO Educational Foundation, established by former Governor Dr. Peter Odili, as reported by The Punch.
The kidnappers have since contacted his family, demanding a ransom of N30 million for his release.
The source pleaded for his safe return, emphasizing, “We are appealing to the kidnappers to release him immediately and unhurt. He is just a journalist doing his job and not a moneybags. So I don’t know the purpose of his kidnap.”
Attempts to obtain a statement from the State Police Command’s spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, were unsuccessful as calls and a text message remained unanswered as of Friday morning.
